ISLAMBAD: Following the recent sharp increase in the prices of petroleum products, a major decision has been taken regarding the increase in rail fares.
According to a private TV, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, in which the overall performance of Pakistan Railways, ongoing reforms and future plans were discussed in detail.
During the meeting, the Minister of Railways briefed the Prime Minister and informed that in view of the Gulf situation, keeping in mind the public convenience, no increase is being made in the fares of all trains running across the country.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister directed that in the current economic situation, additional burden should be avoided on the public and revenue should be increased by improving the railway system.
Shehbaz Sharif also directed to further accelerate reform measures to transform Pakistan Railways into a modern, safe and reliable travel system.
He asked the Minister of Railways to ensure timely completion of ongoing projects and to utilize all resources to provide better, safer and cheaper travel facilities to the public.
