ISLAMABAD: Preparations for introducing new currency notes in Pakistan have been completed, however, the State Bank of Pakistan is awaiting the permission of the federal government to approve the final design.
According to a private TV, the Security Printing Corporation says that the new currency will be equipped with modern and effective security features, however, the final designs of the notes have not been received yet.
According to officials, once approval is received, it will take at least two months to print the new currency, while modern machinery is already available for this purpose.
Security Printing Corporation Senior Manager Printing Amir Shams said that consultations have been held between the State Bank and the Security Printing Corporation regarding the printing of the new currency.
According to him, whether the designs of the new currency will be issued in phases or notes of all denominations will be introduced together, a decision in this regard is under consideration in the State Bank. He said that it is likely that the State Bank will issue an official timeline for printing the new currencies this year.
According to sources, the official order for printing currency notes with the new design will be given only after the approval of the federal cabinet. The State Bank has shortlisted the designs for the new currency notes and sent them to the government.
Sources further said that if the cabinet approves, the newly designed currency could be issued in the last months of 2026.
