Petrol and diesel become expensive in India after 4 years

NEW DELHI: The Indian government has increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per liter after 4 years in view of the rising oil prices in the global market, after which a new discussion on inflation has started across the country.

According to a foreign news agency, Indian officials say that the pressure on the local market was increasing due to the increase in crude oil prices at the global level, in view of which the decision to change the prices was taken.

After the new increase, the price of petrol in the capital New Delhi reached Rs 97.77 per liter, while diesel reached Rs 90.67 per liter. Opposition parties have severely criticized the government for this decision, accusing it of putting more economic burden on the people.

It should be remembered that the last time petroleum products were made expensive in India was in 2022, while before the 2024 general elections, the government announced a reduction in prices by Rs 2 per liter for public relief.

According to experts, tensions in the Middle East, the Iran-related conflict and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz have affected the global oil market, which has led to a significant increase in crude oil prices. India imports a large part of its oil requirements. Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates are among the main suppliers.
