KARACHI: The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has warned of a country-wide shutdown of petrol pumps on July 5 if the advance tax is not revoked.
During a press conference, PPDA Chairman Abdul Samad Khan said that the 0.5% advance turnover tax imposed on petroleum deals in the Finance Bill 2024 is unacceptable.
He added that advance tax makes it impossible for petroleum dealers to sustain the petrol pump business. PPDA Chairman urged the government to immediately review and abolish this new tax revision. “Otherwise, the dealers will have no choice but to shut down operations nationwide,” he said.
Moreover, the PPDA chairman stated the government is supporting smuggling but imposing taxes on everything while declining the sales of petroleum dealers. He claimed that someone spoke out against smuggling and faced threats.
A delegation of petroleum dealers is scheduled to visit Islamabad today to seek meetings with the Finance Minister, the Petroleum Minister, and the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
