Punjab govt demands massive hike in water tariff in Lahore

LAHORE: The government of Punjab has demanded a massive increase in the water tariff for the provincial capital, Lahore, here on Friday.

As per the media reports, the Punjab Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering Department has demanded a substantial increase in the monthly tariff for water consumers in Lahore.

The department has sent a summary to the Punjab government with a recommendation to increase the water tariff for 3 to 5 marla houses from the current Rs 375 to Rs 718 per month.

Similarly, it has been recommended to increase the water tariff for 5 to 7 marla houses from Rs 564 to Rs 938 per month. It is proposed to charge Rs 1,383 per month for 7 to 10 marla houses, Rs 1,603 per month for 10 to 15 marla houses, and Rs 2,183 per month for 15 to 20 marla houses.

The final decision on the proposed increase in water rates will be taken by the Punjab government.
