LAHORE: The Punjab Excise Department is launching a vanity number plate scheme, allowing vehicle owners to customize their plates with personalized names and numbers.
Director Excise Muhammad Asif assured that ownership of the vanity plates will be permanent and that a robust strategy is in place to prevent counterfeiting, including a database of all vanity plate holders.
Three Categories of Vanity Number Plates
- Gold: The gold number plates will be available for Rs500,000
- Platinum: The platinum number plate will range up to Rs50 million
- Corporate: The corporate number plate will be given for Rs100 million
However, controversy arose when Mufti Qavi was reportedly appointed as the scheme’s ambassador, which was promptly denied by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari.
In addition, she stated that no official appointment had been made and warned of disciplinary action against any unauthorized actions within the Excise Department.
