ISLAMABAD: Following a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products, the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 15 percent increase in transport fares.
While announcing the decision, Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said that due to rising costs, it has become difficult for transporters to continue working in the current situation.
He demanded that the government immediately abolish toll tax, withholding tax and unnecessary challans, as no relief is being given to the transport sector. He said that due to government policies, many transporters have been forced to park their vehicles.
Expressing serious concern over the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, Malik Shahzad Awan said that if the transport sector is not provided with immediate facilities, it may also affect the delivery and prices of essential goods.
It should be noted that the government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 5.44 per liter while the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs 31.5 per liter.
According to the new prices, petrol has become Rs 316.15 per liter, and diesel has become Rs 354.35 per liter.
In addition, the price of kerosene has also been increased by Rs 34.33 per liter to Rs 276.66 per liter. The new prices have been applied from July 18 to 20.
