LAHORE: The price of wheat per 40 kg has increased by Rs300, taking the new rate from Rs2,800 to Rs3,100.
Pakistan Flour Mills Association Chairman Asim Raza has expressed concern over the situation, saying that the government has failed to control wheat prices.
He highlighted that the Punjab government has deregulated the wheat market, which is causing price instability.
Raza warned that if the current trend continues, flour prices are likely to increase further in the coming days, which may put additional financial pressure on consumers.
Stakeholders are urging the authorities to take immediate steps to stabilize the market and ensure availability of wheat at reasonable rates.
Flour prices rise across Pakistan
Meanwhile, flour prices have seen a sharp increase across Pakistan, with the price of a 20-kg bag increasing by up to Rs10. 217 during the past week, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The highest prices were recorded in Karachi and Islamabad, where a 20-kg bag of flour is now selling for Rs1,800.

Among the worst-hit cities, Sialkot saw the highest weekly increase of Rs217 per bag. Prices in Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan and Bannu increased by Rs200, while in Bahawalpur, it increased by Rs193.34.
Other notable increases included Rawalpindi (Rs187.67), Islamabad (Rs173.33), Sargodha (Rs173), Sukkur (Rs160), Quetta (Rs130), Karachi and Sukkur (Rs100), and Peshawar (Rs50).
