LAHORE: The Punjab provincial government on Thursday announced a grant of Rs 2.5 million per school to enhance the infrastructure and facilities of government schools across the province.
The funds allocated can be used with the approval of the school management council, according to the details. These funds can be used for upgrading science labs, painting and varnishing, and construction of new classrooms. Moreover, concessions have been provided under PREPA rules to simplify the expenditure process.
Earlier, school councils were allowed to spend only Rs 200,000, and school heads were required to pay significant taxes to access these funds. The new amount of Rs 2.5 million will be provided separately from the non-salary budget.
Schools will continue to receive their usual non-salary budget (NSB) every three months. However, the grant of Rs 2.5 million is a one-time provision aimed at significantly improving school facilities.
