KARACHI: The University of Karachi has announced the introduction of a four-year undergraduate course in Aviation Technology and Management, which will be launched by its Institute of Space Science and Technology from the 2026 academic year. Admissions to the new program will be in compliance with the university’s updated entry policy.

The Academic Council, headed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi, is set to meet today (Thursday) to approve the admission plan for the next session.

To simplify the process, the Admissions Committee has resolved to send out notices in advance. Mid-term results will be speeded up, enabling applications to open by late September, with entrance tests in October. In comparison, last year, admission processes started in late October and tests were conducted in November.

Prof Dr Javed Iqbal, Institute of Space Science Chairman, informed The Express Tribune that despite the Academic Council’s approval of the program last year, delays in the official nod did not allow for student intake.

Admissions will be divided equally between morning and evening shifts and will be based on performance in entrance exams, he mentioned. Only pre-engineering background candidates will be eligible.

Emphasizing the program’s applicability, Dr Iqbal furthered that the curriculum combines aerospace technology subjects with management study to equip graduates with the required skills to address the needs of the aviation and airline sectors.
