LAHORE: The Punjab government has established a formal dress code that all public school teachers must follow to create a new classroom appearance throughout the province.
This means that educators, too, will now follow a uniform policy much like their students. The School Education Department directive, which starts on Monday, February 23, 2026, will extend to all government schools throughout Punjab.
Under the new rules, teachers will need to follow a specific dress code, which includes black gowns as required teaching attire. Male teachers must wear basic shalwar kameez or pants and a shirt, while female teachers should select clothing that meets the standards of dignity and modesty.
The addition of black gowns during instructional hours is aimed at promoting discipline, uniformity, and a professional academic environment. The authorities have made it clear that any dress code violations will lead to disciplinary measures against offenders.
The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of district education authorities must implement the new policy through strict enforcement measures. Officials say the measure is intended to reinforce professionalism and create a more structured atmosphere in public schools – a change that will soon make teachers as uniform in appearance as the students they teach.
