Punjab orders Private Schools to reserve 10% seats for free education

Punjab govt may cut summer vacations in educational institutes

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly Standing Committee has ordered strict implementation of the law to provide free education to 10 percent of deserving children in private schools across the province.

The committee has directed all private schools to ensure free education to 10 percent of children in their institutions within 10 days, otherwise their licenses will be canceled.

During the meeting, the issue of non-implementation of the law was discussed, on which a member of the committee suggested that not only the data provided by private schools should be relied upon, but the School Education Department itself should identify deserving children and admit them in private schools to ensure transparency.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee clarified that strict action will be taken against private schools that do not implement the law within the stipulated time.

On this occasion, the Secretary School Education informed the committee that complete data of all private schools related to 10 percent free education is being collected to ensure effective implementation of the law.
