Punjab Public Service Commission revised merit policy

FPSC unveils new dates for recruitment tests

LAHORE: The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has approved a major reform by removing the weightage of academic marks in the merit determination process, a move aimed at promoting transparency and fairness in recruitments.

PPSC Chairman Lt. Gen (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz announced that from now on, merit will be determined solely through PPSC examination results and interviews, with more emphasis on written test scores.

The commission has also decided to discontinue the additional marks previously given for research work and non-medical experience.

According to officials, these changes will come into effect from January 1, 2026, establishing a uniform and standardised assessment system for all candidates. The decision was finalised in a meeting of the full commission based on the recommendations of the reform committee chaired by retired Inspector General and commission member Arif Nawaz Khan.

PPSC Secretary Afzal Ahmed explained that these reforms have been introduced after a detailed comparative study of international public service commissions to bring the system in line with global standards.

Lt. Gen. (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz affirmed that the commission is committed to ensuring transparency, impartiality and equal opportunities for every candidate.
