Sindh bans govt teachers from private tutoring: Here’s why

Sindh makes licensing test compulsory for teacher recruitment

KARACHI: Secretary College Education Asif Akram has formally banned teachers of government colleges in Sindh from teaching in private tuition or coaching centres during government working hours, here on Wednesday.

As per the details, a notice was issued to all college principals, highlighting concerns that some teachers are giving priority to private tuition over their assigned responsibilities. This neglect has allegedly led to a decline in student attendance and disrupted the academic environment.

The directive stressed that the use of government time for personal gain is unprofessional, unethical and completely unacceptable. Teachers, who have the prime responsibility of shaping the future of students, should remain focused on their duties during government hours.

Principals have been directed to strictly monitor the attendance of teachers and ensure that all classes are conducted as per the schedule. Teachers violating this directive by engaging in private teaching during working hours will face disciplinary action under the Sindh Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules 1973.

Principals who fail to enforce compliance will also be held accountable.
