KARACHI: The Sindh College Education Department has announced major reforms, focusing on student counselling services and a ban on unnecessary mobile phone use on campuses.
A new counselling program will be launched by hiring education experts, bureaucrats, and professionals to guide students, while a formal notification on mobile phone restrictions is expected soon.
The meeting, which Secretary of College Education Nadeem Memon chaired, resulted in decisions that examined teacher absenteeism, weak monitoring, and substandard construction across multiple colleges.
The department identified 44 male and 36 female teachers who were absent for long periods and has forwarded the cases for legal action and public notices.
The Government will establish the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate to enhance governance, which will monitor attendance and assess infrastructure and academic performance.
The College Infrastructure Development Unit will supervise all upcoming development projects through professional consulting firms, which will be chosen through national and international bidding processes.
The department will establish counselling services and the “Each One Teach One” program to support student welfare by helping out-of-school children return to educational programs.
Secretary Memon warned that officers who fail to complete their duties will face strict disciplinary action because the organization will apply zero tolerance for negligence.
