KARACHI: The Sindh government has launched a digital monitoring system to monitor attendance of students and enhance accountability in public schools.
The program, the Student Attendance Monitoring System (SAMRS), was initiated at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. It is designed to determine causes of absenteeism and raise the overall learning performance of the province.
Under the Sindh Early Learning Enhancement Through Classroom Transformation Project, SAMRS will first be rolled out in 600 schools in 12 districts, and subsequently in all Sindh schools. The project has been prepared with assistance from the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education.
As per Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, SAMRS is a technology-based solution that relies on an offline mobile app to capture daily attendance and receive information from schools. It is intended to decrease dropout rates and track teacher and student performance.
The chief minister stated that the system is an important milestone for integrating technology in education and providing transparency. The system is to be launched formally soon, with international partners and stakeholders in education invited to participate.
