Teachers can now apply for Dubai golden visa

ABU DHABI: Dubai has widened the scope of its high-profile Golden Visa to cover outstanding teachers in private schooling. Introduced on October 5, 2024, this move is designed to recognize teachers and education leaders who have exemplified excellence, innovation, and a deep commitment to improving education in the emirate.

The long-term residency will be available to educators working in early childhood centres, private schools, and international higher education institutions.

This step reflects Dubai’s continued investment in human capital and its recognition of educators as key drivers of social progress and economic sustainability.

Eligibility Overview

Educators in schools, nurseries, and universities may qualify for the Golden Visa if they meet one or more of the following benchmarks:

  • Established track record of academic distinction and educational innovation.
  • Proven ability to raise the quality of education in their institutions.
  • Acknowledged contributions to enhanced student achievement and general academic success.
  • Widespread recognition and positive impact from the broader educational community.

Who Can Apply

The Golden Visa is available to:

  • School principals and education leaders
  • Early childhood centre managers
  • Academic directors and higher education institution deans
  • Teachers in ECCs and schools
  • Full-time lecturers and senior administrators at higher education institutions

Eligibility Criteria

For ECC Managers, Principals, and Academic Heads
Qualifications (HEI only): Should have an advanced qualification (PhD, professional doctorate, master’s) or equivalent professional certification, e.g., CPA or fellowship.

School Ratings (Principals): The school must have attained and sustained a “Good” or above rating by the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau (DSIB).

Research Contributions (HEI): Publication records, co-authorships of research, research grants, consultative reports, or creative work.

Student Progress: Evident improvement in student performance, graduation rate, or academic progress.

Leadership Influence: Praise by parents, staff, and students on leadership and institutional climate.

Awards and Honors: Should have received substantial educational acclaim, including grants, fellowships, or national/international honors.

Community Involvement: Documented participation in community projects or collaborations that enhance education and social advancement.

Official Nomination: Should be formally nominated by the board of governors of the school with explicit reasons.

For Teachers and Faculty

Qualifications (HEI only): Must hold an advanced degree or recognized professional certification.
Professional Excellence:

School principal nomination with approval of the board of governors.
Gathering of students’ success in internal and external evaluations.
Positive student, parent, and supervisor commendations.
Academic and Research Contributions (HEI Faculty): Proof of published research, academic co-authorship, grants, or creative endeavors.

Support for Key Student Groups:

Enhanced Emirati students’ outcomes.
Active contribution to the progress of students of determination.
Awards and Recognition: Holder of a national or international education award, e.g. the Hamdan Award or Global Teacher Prize, or recognition as a fellow or through academic competition.

Community Contribution: Evidence of involvement in school or community-based educational programs.

Application Process

Eligible institutions,  schools, early childhood centres, and higher education institutions can nominate worthy teachers who qualify.

Applicants are required to submit:

  • KHDA inspection and rating reports (for principals)
  • Award and recognition certificates
  • Student and parent survey results or testimonials
  • Staff recommendations (for leaders and managers)
  • Evidence of community outreach and student progress
  • Nomination and recommendation letters from the board of governors

The applications will be examined by a special committee, whose recommendations will be sent to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

KHDA will subsequently check eligibility in coordination with the concerned government authorities. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted once their Golden Visa is approved.
