UK Universities halt admissions for Pakistani & Bangladeshi students: Here’s why!

Male teachers barred from meeting female Students in KP universities

LONDON: British universities have banned admissions of Pakistani and Bangladeshi students, the decision came after asylum applications.

According to foreign media reports, 9 British universities have suspended new admissions of international students from Pakistan and Bangladesh, nine higher education institutions have banned recruitment from “high-risk” countries, and universities were under pressure to admit genuine students.

This move by higher education institutions has come after an increase in asylum applications from international students. Media reports also reported that about 20% of visa applications for students from Pakistan were being rejected.

Border Security Minister Dame Angela Eagle has warned that the visa system should not be “used as a backdoor” to settle in the UK.

The University of Wolverhampton is not accepting undergraduate applicants from Pakistan and Bangladesh, while the University of East London is suspending recruitment from Pakistan.

Other universities that have changed their rules include Sunderland and Coventry, which have suspended admissions to students from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Ministry of Border Security said that asylum applications from Pakistani and Bangladeshi students have increased significantly, and that the misuse of asylum and immigration under the guise of study visas is unacceptable.
