KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially increased flour prices in Karachi, raising the rate by Rs 8 per kilogram, according to a notification issued by the Karachi commissioner.
The new notification establishes the price of a 10-kilogram flour bag at Rs 1,070, which stores must sell at Rs 107 for each kilogram. The ex-mill rate has been established at Rs 104 per kilogram, which equals Rs 1,040 for a 10-kg bag.
The price of flour stood at Rs 99 per kilogram in December 2025, which shows a gradual price increase that has taken place during the last several months. Retail outlets maintain their flour prices, which exceed the established government rates even after the official price change.
Consumers report that prices at neighborhood shops range from Rs 125 to Rs 140 per kilogram, particularly for locally milled chakki flour. Residents report that official prices and market prices create a persistent price gap, which weak enforcement of regulations permits, resulting in citizens paying more than the government-established prices.
Market compliance remains a challenge, although the revised prices took effect immediately. Authorities must sell flour at official prices because they need to provide Karachi residents with relief from rising food costs.
