Doctors remove mobile phone from patient's stomach

HURGHADA: Doctors at the General Hospital in Hurghada, Egypt, removed a mobile phone from a patient’s stomach during an unusual surgery.

The Red Sea Health Directorate said the patient arrived at the hospital complaining of severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting and weakness.

X-rays and scans revealed that the patient had a small mobile phone in his stomach that he had accidentally swallowed.

Hospital director Dr. Karim Al-Shabrawi said a team of expert surgeons immediately performed the operation and removed the mobile phone.

The surgery was successful and the patient’s condition is now stable, but he has been kept in the hospital for further monitoring. Authorities did not explain how the patient swallowed the phone.

According to the report, in 2021, a mobile phone was removed from a patient’s esophagus in Egypt. Experts have warned that swallowing such dangerous objects can be fatal.
