ISLAMABAD: Scientists have come up with a novel technology in cancer therapy that involves using sophisticated technology to target cancer cells selectively without harming normal cells.
Researchers at Australia’s Melbourne RMIT University claim to have discovered that “extremely tiny metallic particles” can distinguish and destroy cancerous cells in the human body.
The study is still in the initial stages. The project so far has only been tried on cells developed in the laboratory and not on human or animal subjects. The results indicate a potentially efficacious treatment option that reveals vulnerabilities shown by tumor cells.
This was followed by an explanation from Dr. Baowei Zheng of the university that cancer cells are under more stress than normal cells. The metal particles add further stress to this level that triggers the cancer cells to initiate their own death.
