Basant celebrations continue in Rawalpindi as Police fail to curb kite flying

Over 20,000 sanitary workers deployed for Basant festival

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi witnessed kite flying during Basant celebrations, with activities continuing openly across the city despite official restrictions.

Police efforts to control the activity appeared ineffective, as kite flying and the use of loudspeakers continued unabated across several neighborhoods. Loudspeakers were reportedly used throughout the city, even though a ban on loudspeaker use remains in effect until February 22, as per an official notification.

The situation has raised serious safety concerns, particularly after two children were injured by hazardous kite strings (killer wire) just two days ago. The incidents have further highlighted the risks associated with unchecked Basant activities.

Public circles say that Rawalpindi police claims of strict enforcement have failed to materialize on the ground, as violations of both kite-flying restrictions and loudspeaker bans continue openly across the city.
