BIRMINGHAM: Pakistan suffered a 23-run defeat against England in the second T20I of the four-match series at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on Saturday

Babar Azam and Co were bowled out for 160 chasing a target of 184. This is England’s eighth win in the last 11 T20Is against Pakistan.

Fakhar Zaman worked for Pakistan in a losing cause as the left-hander played an explosive knock of 45 off 21 balls with three fours and five sixes. Captain Babar Azam scored 32 runs off 26 balls as he was the second highest run scorer.

Meanwhile, lower down the order, Iftikhar Ahmed (23 off 17) and Imad Wasim (22 off 13) provided crucial runs but were not enough to guide Pakistan to victory.

Reece Topley took three wickets for England. Moeen Ali and Jofra Archer got two each while Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone got one each.

Earlier, Jos Buttler played the captain’s innings and scored 84 runs off 51 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. In the process, he also completed 3,000 runs in T20I cricket, becoming only the ninth player in the shortest format to do so.

Pakistan got off to a flying start when Imad Wasim removed Phil Salt in the fourth over, but England recovered brilliantly as Buttler and Will Jacks put on a 71-run partnership that brought the home side back into the game.

The hosts were on their way to a big total but a brilliant comeback by the Pakistani bowlers, especially Haris Rauf, Imad and Shaheen, stopped them.

Jacks scored 37 runs off 23 balls with six fours while Jonny Bairstow scored 21 runs. Meanwhile, players like Harry Brook, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone failed to score in double figures.

Jofra Archer scored 12 runs in the last over as England ended their innings at 183/7 in the allotted overs.

On behalf of Pakistan, Shaheen took three wickets while Imad and Rauf took two wickets each. While Shadab Khan and Mohammad Amir failed to take a single wicket.
