Senate elections: ECP rejects nomination papers of Murad Saeed, Azam Swati

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Election Commission has rejected Azam Swati, Murad Saeed, and other leaders’ nomination papers for the Senate race, dealing another blow to the leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf.

For the 48 Senate seats that are up for grabs, a number of parliamentarians filed candidacy papers. Imran Khan’s party has been selecting veteran candidates for elections to the upper house.

According to reports in the local media, Azam Swati,  PTI member, had his nomination papers for the Senate’s technocrat seat denied, while the papers of eight other candidates were accepted.

Murad Saeed, Khurram Zeeshan, and former chief minister Mehmood Khan also had their candidacy papers rejected.

Six female candidates submitted their candidacy papers to the electoral watchdog for the women’s reserved seats.
