PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sohail Afridi has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath to Sohail Afridi in a ceremony held at the Governor’s House.
Two days ago, in a session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly presided over by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Sohail Afridi was elected as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was elected by 90 members of the provincial assembly.
On the other hand, yesterday, the Peshawar High Court had reserved its decision on the constitutional petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) under Article 255 regarding the delay in the swearing-in of the new Chief Minister, which was heard today.
The High Court had ordered the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to administer the oath to the newly elected Chief Minister Sohail Afridi by 4 pm today.
The Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court had ruled in the order that if the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa does not administer the oath to the newly elected Chief Minister, then the Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly should administer the oath to Sohail Afridi.
