Khalilur Rehman Qamar

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday suspended the seven-year sentence of Amna Urooj, who was convicted in the kidnapping case of renowned scriptwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, heard the petition challenging the sentence.

The court suspended her sentence and directed her to submit surety bonds worth Rs 500,000.

Advocate Sikandar Zulfiqar Nain represented the convict, while the public prosecutor opposed the suspension of the sentence.

According to the case details, Chohang Police Station had registered a case against Amina Urooj for the kidnapping of Khalilur Rehman Qamar and for allegedly demanding ransom.

The anti-terrorism court (ATC) had earlier sentenced her to seven years in prison.

Following her conviction, Amina Urooj filed an appeal before the Lahore High Court, seeking suspension of the sentence, which the court has now granted.
