Rawalpindi Hakeem’s second marriage sparks social media buzz

Rawalpindi Hakeem’s second marriage sparks social media buzz

RAWALPINDI: A marriage between a 60-year-old Hakeem and his 24-year-old former employee has become a trending topic on social media.

Hakeem Babar, 60, married his 24-year-old employee, who is divorced, on February 19. He said he preferred marriage over an informal relationship because marriage is a Sunnah and brings blessings.

“If a relationship is to be built, it should be built with respect and dignity,” he added, explaining why he sent a formal marriage proposal with the consent of the bride’s family.

The bride confirmed that she chose Hakeem Babar willingly and wanted to be with him wholeheartedly. She said she was initially surprised when he expressed his love, but after consideration, she accepted the proposal.

She also informed her family, who made it a condition that the relationship be formalized through marriage.

This is Hakeem Babar’s second marriage. His first marriage, about 20 years ago, produced four children, all of whom were informed about his decision and are reportedly supportive.

After the wedding, Hakeem announced plans to go to the Maldives for his honeymoon. He noted that second or third marriages are common in many countries, though in Pakistan such marriages often spark debate.

Social media users have shared mixed reactions, with some criticizing the age difference and others praising the couple for formalizing their relationship through marriage. Legal experts note that the marriage is valid as both parties are consenting adults, even though such unions often attract public discussion.
