Renown comedian actor Javed Kodu passes away

KARACHI: Javed Kodu, a wellknown Pakistani actor recognized for both his comedic talent and his short stature, died on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

His time in the theater was just over forty years, and throughout that time, he brought laughter and hope to many. Born with dwarfism, Kodu faced numerous obstacles but became one of the most loved personalities in the history of theatre in Pakistan.

His stage name was originally given to him by one of Pakistans greatest comedians, Akhtar Hussain Albela. Kodus introduction to acting was in 1981 in the play “Sode Baaz”, and thereafter, he went on to act in over 150 films and countless stage productions.

He was also memorable in Pakistan television with his work in the drama “Ashiyana.” Kodu’s impressive contributions to theatre and film are countless, and his passing is the end of a wonderful era in stage comedy.

He is survived by his son, Salman Kodu, and another son, Shera, who is carrying on the family tradition performing in “Mazaaq Raat.” Tributes have come in from across the country in recognition of his tenacity, strength, and the joy he brought to millions, and his legacy of work, humor, and inspiring us to go beyond our physical limitations will last.
