Star Wars actor Michael Pennington dies at 82

LONDON: British actor Michael Pennington, who played a memorable role in the famous film series Star Wars, has died at the age of 82. His representatives confirmed his death on Monday.

Michael Pennington gained international fame for his role as ‘Moff Jargerd’ in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but he was considered one of the leading Shakespearean actors in British theater. He was also an honorary associate artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He founded the ‘English Shakespeare Company’ with theater director Michael Bogdanov and gave brilliant performances in Shakespeare’s plays for decades.

Celebrities associated with the arts expressed deep sorrow and grief upon his death. Renowned actress Miriam Margulies described him as an intelligent, dignified and exceptionally talented artist.

Born in Cambridge in 1943, Michael Pennington began his TV career in 1965 with the BBC series The War of the Roses. During his long career, he appeared in more than 70 films and TV productions, including The Iron Lady.

His last role came in the form of a voiceover in the 2022 science fiction series Raised by Wolves.
