Apple iPhone manufacturing Pakistan is being planned under a new government policy designed to attract global technology investment. The initiative aims to turn Pakistan into a regional hub for mobile production and exports.

According to a report, the government has prepared a Mobile and Electronics Manufacturing Framework to support international companies. Officials are offering incentives such as an 8 percent performance reward and land at reduced prices to encourage investment.

As part of the initial phase, Apple is expected to begin by repairing and refurbishing older iPhones in Pakistan. These refurbished devices will be exported, with authorities hoping to generate around $100 million in export earnings during the first year.

Officials said this approach follows a model already used by Apple in countries including India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Full-scale manufacturing may follow after the refurbishment operations are established.

The new policy also proposes increasing performance incentives from 6 percent to 8 percent. This change is intended to attract more global manufacturers and strengthen local production capacity.

The government’s broader plan includes promoting investment in laptops, tablets, wearable devices, and accessories. Authorities believe this will help build a stronger electronics industry in the long term.

In addition, Chinese companies are expected to invest about $557 million in Pakistan’s mobile manufacturing sector. These agreements were reached during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Beijing.

Manufacturers have also agreed to increase the use of locally made components. The share of local parts is planned to rise from 12 percent to 35 percent in the first year, with a long-term target of 50 percent.

The policy further proposes an export levy of up to 6 percent on premium smartphones. This measure is aimed at supporting technology development, while lower-priced phones between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 60,000 will remain exempt.

Separately, the government is expanding its electric vehicle policy. Subsidies for electric bikes are already in place, and officials are now considering support for affordable electric cars.
