The government has enforced a ban on high beam lights on vehicles, aiming to reduce road accidents and protect public safety, particularly during nighttime travel. The decision follows growing complaints from motorists and traffic authorities about the dangers posed by intense, modified, and laser vehicle lights on busy roads.
According to an official notification, the use of high-intensity headlights has been declared hazardous, as it temporarily blinds oncoming drivers and increases the risk of serious collisions. Authorities confirmed that the restriction applies not only to the use of such lights but also to their sale and purchase within city limits.
Government Notification and Legal Action
Officials stated that traffic accident data and field reports showed a clear link between high-beam misuse and road mishaps, especially on urban roads and highways after dark. Many drivers reportedly install modified or non-standard lights to enhance visibility, without realizing the danger these lights pose to others.
Under the new directive, strict legal action will be taken against violators. Authorities warned that anyone found using or trading in banned vehicle lights will face prosecution under Section 188 of the law, which deals with disobedience of official orders. Traffic police have been instructed to begin enforcement immediately through routine checks and targeted operations.
Senior officials emphasized that the move is preventive rather than punitive. “The purpose is not to issue fines but to save lives,” a traffic department representative said, urging drivers to cooperate fully with enforcement teams.
Public Safety and Road Awareness
Road safety experts have welcomed the decision, noting that glare from high-beam and laser lights reduces reaction time for drivers, pedestrians, and motorcyclists. Such lights are particularly dangerous on narrow roads, intersections, and during foggy or rainy conditions.
The administration has also appealed to citizens to show responsibility while driving and to use standard, factory-fitted headlights adjusted at proper angles. Awareness campaigns are expected to follow, focusing on safe driving practices and the importance of respecting traffic laws.
Officials reiterated that compliance with the ban on high beam lights will play a key role in making roads safer for everyone. Motorists have been advised to report violations and avoid unnecessary modifications that compromise public safety.
