Dedicated Bike Lanes in Faisalabad have officially started on major city roads.
The district administration has begun marking separate tracks for motorcycles and bicycles. The move aims to improve road safety and manage traffic flow.
This is the first time Faisalabad is introducing a structured system for separate bike lanes. Residents say this step was long overdue.
According to officials, the lanes are being clearly marked and reserved only for motorcyclists and cyclists. Authorities want to reduce accidents and protect daily commuters.
The Faisalabad Development Authority had proposed such lanes in its 1978 master plan. However, the idea was never implemented at that time.
Retired chief engineer Muhammad Asghar said the Metropolitan Corporation and Highway Department are following international standards. He explained that global guidelines suggest a minimum width of 1.5 meters for one-way lanes and 3.5 meters for two-way lanes.
He also stressed that cycle lanes must be clearly marked with solid white lines. Traffic staff may be deployed on busy roads to ensure rules are followed.
Another retired engineer, Khalid Mahmood, described the project as an important development. He said previous planning ignored the needs of people who depend on motorcycles and bicycles for daily travel.
With this initiative, Dedicated Bike Lanes in Faisalabad are expected to make roads safer and more organized for thousands of commuters.
