Karachi: Driverless Car Pakistan project has reached a major milestone as engineers from NED University of Engineering and Technology successfully completed a test drive of an AI-powered autonomous vehicle.
Driverless Car Pakistan is a modern system where a vehicle moves without a human driver. Instead, it uses artificial intelligence to make decisions on the road.
According to the research team at the National Center of Artificial Intelligence, the project was developed under the Smart City Lab. The team created a fully autonomous electric vehicle using advanced AI systems.
The engineers explained that Driverless Car Pakistan is not an ordinary car. It works like a “smart machine” that does not get tired or distracted while driving.
The vehicle uses a powerful onboard computer. It receives data from sensors, cameras, and a high-precision GPS system. This data is processed instantly to decide when to stop, turn, or adjust speed.
The car is an imported electric vehicle that was later modified locally. Advanced sensors and AI computing systems were installed to make it fully autonomous.
Currently, Driverless Car Pakistan is being tested inside the university campus in Karachi. The roads are being used to train and improve the system.
In terms of performance, the car can travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge. Its computing system runs on a separate battery, which provides 8 to 9 hours of backup.
The vehicle is equipped with sonar sensors, HD cameras, and GPS technology. These tools help it understand its surroundings in a 3D environment and move safely.
At present, the speed is limited to 20 km/h. However, the system can automatically adjust speed based on road conditions.
Experts say the goal of Driverless Car Pakistan is to promote AI research and develop future-ready technology in the country. The project also aims to create export-quality innovation that can bring economic benefits.
