The former NFL linebacker murder charge against Darron Lee has drawn widespread attention after authorities arrested the 31-year-old in connection with his girlfriend’s death in Tennessee.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence in Ooltewah on February 5 after receiving a call reporting CPR in progress. First responders attempted life-saving measures on a woman at the scene. However, she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators quickly identified Lee, the victim’s boyfriend, at the home and took him into custody. Officials said preliminary findings indicated the death was a homicide. As a result, Lee was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, while additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending family notification. Meanwhile, Lee is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.

The case has raised fresh concern because of Lee’s past legal troubles. Reports note that he had previously faced allegations related to assault and domestic violence in 2023.

Lee was once considered a promising professional athlete. He played college football at Ohio State before being selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Over his career, he appeared in 58 NFL games and also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills.

Officials stated that detectives were called to examine the residence due to the victim’s condition and other evidence found at the location. Early conclusions led investigators to treat the death as a criminal matter rather than a medical emergency.

The former NFL linebacker murder charge remains under active investigation, and authorities have not disclosed further details about what led to the incident. Prosecutors have also not commented publicly on the ongoing case.

As legal proceedings move forward, the arrest marks a dramatic fall for a player who once competed at the highest level of American football. For now, law enforcement officials say the priority is completing a thorough investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
