Iran attacks have pushed the wider Middle East to a dangerous turning point, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said on Friday.
He made these remarks during a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council, where global leaders discussed rising tensions in the region.
The Pakistani envoy stressed that the situation has become serious after recent developments involving Iran. He warned that instability could spread if immediate steps are not taken.
Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan values its historic and deep-rooted relations with Arab countries. He highlighted the need for unity and cooperation during uncertain global conditions.
He urged stronger collaboration between the United Nations and the League of Arab States. According to him, partnerships with regional organizations are essential to manage current geopolitical challenges.
The envoy reminded that maintaining international peace and security is the primary responsibility of the UN Security Council. However, he added that regional bodies also play a key role in conflict prevention, mediation, and stability.
Pakistan supports peaceful solutions to disputes and encourages dialogue, he said. He also appreciated the efforts of the Arab League in promoting diplomatic engagement across the region.
Speaking on Palestine, the Pakistani representative said the Palestinian people continue to face illegal occupation, displacement, and denial of basic rights. He called on Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories as well as areas in Syria and Lebanon.
He further pointed out concerns over limited shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz. He said these challenges require urgent attention to avoid further escalation.
The envoy concluded that an immediate ceasefire and the revival of dialogue are necessary to reduce tensions and ensure regional stability.
