K-P fuel subsidy announced: Rs2,000 relief for bikers and rickshaw owners

Registration starts for KP govt fuel subsidy

The K-P fuel subsidy has been introduced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to support low-income transport users facing rising petrol prices. The initiative was announced on Sunday and will provide Rs2,000 to motorcycle, scooter, and rickshaw owners across the province.

According to officials, the scheme is part of the Ehsaas Fuel Support Programme. It aims to reduce the financial burden caused by the ongoing energy crisis and sharp increase in fuel prices.

Special Assistant for Information, Shafi Jan, said the subsidy is being launched on the instructions of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. He added that the government is focused on providing relief to the common man.

Under the programme, eligible individuals can register through the Dastak App. Authorities say the system is simple and transparent, allowing easy access to financial assistance.

Officials highlighted that the K-P fuel subsidy is designed to support low-income groups, especially daily commuters who rely on motorcycles and rickshaws for their livelihood.

The provincial government described the initiative as part of its broader welfare strategy. It said similar public relief measures will continue to help citizens cope with economic challenges.

The announcement comes after a sharp rise in fuel prices in recent weeks. Petrol prices recently reached a record high after multiple increases within a short period.

At the federal level, some adjustments were also made, including a reduction in the petroleum levy. However, fuel costs remain high, putting pressure on household budgets.

Other provinces have also introduced relief measures. Sindh has announced monthly subsidies for motorcyclists and transport operators, while Punjab has pledged free public transport across cities.
