The Lahore Division Commissioner has formally approved the transport strategy, according to officials familiar with the decision. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Punjab Transport Company, and selected private ride services will jointly provide free travel facilities during Basant.

As part of the plan, free transport will be available on 24 routes across Lahore. A total of 228 feeder buses, 64 Metro Bus vehicles, and additional buses from government colleges and universities will be deployed to manage public movement.

Capacity and Route Coverage

Officials said the Orange Line Metro Train can accommodate around 250,000 passengers daily, while the Metro Bus service from Gajjumata to Shahdara is expected to serve nearly 87,000 people each day. Feeder routes have the capacity to carry more than 127,000 passengers daily.

Overall, authorities estimate that around 516,000 people will benefit from free bus services per day. In addition, about 5,000 privately operated rickshaws will be branded and included in the free transport initiative to support last-mile connectivity.

The administration says the transport plan aims to ensure smooth mobility, reduce congestion, and provide safe travel options for the public during Basant festivities.
