The Punjab government has decided to further strengthen Lahore CCTV security measures by increasing the number of surveillance cameras across key areas of the provincial capital, with a primary focus on improving security for very important persons (VVIPs). The decision reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance monitoring and preventive security arrangements in Lahore.
According to official sources, the plan involves installing additional closed-circuit television cameras at sensitive and strategically important points in the city. These locations include areas frequently used by senior government officials, judges, and other individuals provided with high-level security, as well as routes considered critical from a law and order perspective.
Officials familiar with the development said the Security Division Lahore, which oversees security arrangements for the Punjab chief minister and other VVIPs, has formally approached the authorities for financial support to expand the existing surveillance network. The department believes additional cameras will help improve real-time monitoring and strengthen coordination during security operations.
Sources further revealed that a detailed summary related to the project has been sent to the Punjab Home Department for review and approval. The proposal reportedly includes an estimated budget of Rs10.60 million, covering the cost of new equipment, installation, and related technical requirements.
Government officials say the move is part of a broader strategy to rely more on technology-driven solutions to address security challenges. Enhanced camera coverage is expected to assist law enforcement agencies in tracking movement, identifying potential threats, and responding more quickly to any untoward incidents.
While the primary objective of the initiative is to ensure VVIP safety, authorities note that increased surveillance can also support general public security by aiding crime prevention and investigation. Lahore has already seen expanded use of monitoring systems in recent years, and the latest proposal aims to further strengthen those efforts.
The project is currently under administrative consideration, and final approval is expected after the completion of financial and procedural formalities. Once approved, implementation is likely to begin in phases to ensure effective deployment and operational efficiency.
