The Lahore Ramazan Savings Festival will take place from February 13 to 15 at Jilani Park, as the Punjab government moves to help residents prepare for the holy month. The three-day event will offer subsidised food items along with family-friendly activities to support households facing rising expenses before Ramazan.

Officials said the festival is being organised on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The goal is to provide quality essential goods at affordable prices while ensuring a safe shopping environment for families.

Punjab Food Authority Director General Asim Javed recently chaired a meeting with key stakeholders to review preparations. During the briefing, authorities confirmed that relief stalls will be set up across the venue. These stalls will sell daily-use items such as flour, ghee, sugar, rice, pulses, fruits, and vegetables at discounted rates.

Moreover, strict food safety measures will remain in place throughout the event. Food Authority teams will monitor product quality, while officials will closely supervise pricing and supply. This step aims to prevent overcharging and maintain consumer trust.

In addition, organisers plan to highlight local culture and traditions during the festival. Visitors can expect activities that reflect regional heritage, creating a welcoming atmosphere for families. Authorities have also been directed to ensure strong security and crowd management so attendees can shop comfortably.

The Lahore Ramazan Savings Festival comes at a time when many families seek financial relief before the fasting month begins. Government officials believe that targeted discounts on essential goods can ease the burden on household budgets.

Meanwhile, the Council of Islamic Ideology has announced this year’s financial guidelines related to charitable obligations. Chairperson Allama Dr Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi stated that the minimum Sadaqatul Fitr and Fidyah amount has been set at Rs300 per person based on wheat flour. The rates vary depending on commodities, including Rs1,100 for barley, Rs1,600 for dates, Rs3,800 for raisins, and Rs5,400 for munqa. For those using government-subsidised flour, the minimum contribution is Rs200 per person.

Officials added that the festival is part of broader efforts to provide maximum relief to citizens ahead of Ramazan. As preparations continue, authorities expect strong public turnout due to the combination of discounted shopping and cultural engagement.

With food prices remaining a key concern nationwide, initiatives like this festival reflect the provincial government’s attempt to stabilise access to essential items while supporting community well-being.
