The government of Pakistan has cancelled the Pakistan Day parade scheduled for March 23 due to ongoing oil supply pressures and recent austerity measures.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, both the parade and related ceremonies will not take place this year. The decision comes after global oil supply disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
To manage the situation, the government recently announced austerity measures. These include a four-day work week and work-from-home arrangements for various offices.
The Prime Minister’s Office added that Pakistan Day will be observed this year with simple and dignified ceremonies, including flag-hoisting events. All ministries and departments have been directed to mark the day in a modest manner while keeping its significance intact.
Pakistan Day, observed annually on March 23, commemorates the Lahore Resolution of 1940. Traditionally, the day features a grand military parade in Islamabad attended by top civil and military officials.
