Pakistan demarche over Bajaur attack was officially delivered to Afghanistan after a deadly suicide bombing targeted Pakistani security forces. Islamabad asked Kabul to take immediate and verifiable action against terrorist groups using Afghan soil.
The Foreign Office confirmed on Thursday that the Afghan Deputy Head of Mission was summoned in Islamabad. A strong protest was handed over following the February 16 attack in Bajaur.
Eleven Soldiers Martyred in Bajaur Attack
The Pakistan demarche over Bajaur attack came after a vehicle-borne suicide bomber struck a military and law enforcement post. After the blast, terrorists also opened fire on security personnel.
As a result, 11 Pakistani soldiers were martyred. Pakistan strongly condemned the attack and called it an act of terrorism.
Officials said the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also called Fitna al Khwarij, was behind the assault.
Pakistan Expresses Serious Concerns
Pakistan told Afghan authorities that TTP leadership is operating from Afghan territory. Islamabad said it had already received assurances from Kabul in the past.
However, Pakistan expressed regret that no visible action had been taken so far. Through the Pakistan demarche over Bajaur attack, officials demanded concrete steps to stop such incidents.
Pakistan also made it clear that it reserves the right to defend itself and protect its citizens and territory.
Foreign Office Reaffirms Right to Self-Defence
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi called the Bajaur attack a cowardly act. He said Pakistan values its historic and cultural ties with Afghanistan.
But he added that attacks on Pakistani civilians and soldiers cannot be tolerated. Pakistan’s right to self-defence under international law remains intact.
He said any action against terrorist groups would be taken to protect innocent lives.
Rising Border Tensions
The Pakistan demarche over Bajaur attack came at a time of rising tensions along the Pak-Afghan border. Officials described the recent attacks as a serious concern for national security.
Pakistan repeated its clear message that Afghan soil must not be used for terrorism. Authorities stressed that assurances must turn into real action.
