The Punjab private schools ban has been officially announced by the School Education Department to protect parents from unfair practices. Under the new directive, private schools across Punjab are prohibited from forcing parents to buy books, uniforms, or stationery from selected shops.
The Punjab Governament aims to curb exploitation, reduce education costs, and ensure transparency in private educational institutions throughout the province.
The Punjab School Education Department issued a formal circular declaring the practice illegal. Schools are only allowed to provide a list of required books and supplies.
They cannot compel parents to purchase items from specific vendors or outlets.
Officials said the practice violates the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) rules. Any direct or indirect pressure on parents will invite strict legal action.
The department warned that violations could result in fines, warnings, or registration-related penalties.
The decision follows rising complaints from parents in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and other cities. Parents reported being forced to buy overpriced uniforms, bags, and stationery.
Many families said refusal led to warnings or threats against students.
Parents have been advised to report violations to their respective District Education Authorities. Authorities confirmed that complaints will be investigated promptly.
District officials have been instructed to closely monitor schools, especially during the new academic session.
Education experts believe the Punjab private schools ban could ease financial pressure on middle- and low-income families amid inflation.
However, some parents remain cautious, citing weak enforcement of similar orders in the past.
