Spanish Resident Card Scheme for Overseas Pakistanis

Overseas Pakistanis Spanish resident cards

Eligible overseas Pakistanis will now be issued one-year resident cards in Spain, according to a statement released on Sunday. This follows a high-level meeting on the Spanish resident card scheme for overseas Pakistanis.

The session was chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain. Officials confirmed that Pakistanis living abroad will receive legal protection and support throughout the process. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured full assistance for the new resident card initiative.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Spain, Dr Zahoor Ahmed, briefed officials about the scheme. He clarified that it is not meant for individuals seeking political asylum. Applicants are required to submit a character certificate and other necessary documents.

Officials said the first resident card will be valid for one year. After seven to eight years, holders may apply for permanent residency and citizenship. Document verification will be expedited to avoid delays.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that only a single national character certificate from the National Police Bureau will be accepted. The process will be simplified to ensure ease for applicants. Minister Salik Hussain called the move “welcoming,” noting that thousands of Pakistanis abroad will gain legal status.

The meeting included Pakistan’s ambassador to Spain, the Consul General in Barcelona, and the Community Welfare Attaché via Zoom. Other senior participants included Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary, Secretary of Overseas Pakistanis, NADRA Chairman, Director General FIA, and Director General Passports.

This new initiative is expected to strengthen legal protections for overseas Pakistanis and provide a clear pathway to get Spanish resident card scheme and citizenship.
