Sri Lanka refuses US fighter jet base request, making a clear decision based on national sovereignty and regional security concerns.
According to official reports, the United States asked Sri Lanka in early March to allow deployment of two fighter jets. These aircraft were planned to be stationed at Matala International Airport.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake informed parliament that the request included aircraft equipped with anti-ship missiles. The jets were expected to be moved from a US base in Djibouti.
However, Sri Lanka refused US fighter jet base access without hesitation. The government rejected the proposal after reviewing the regional situation and its national interests.
The president said the decision was taken to protect the country’s sovereignty. He also pointed to the sensitive security environment in the region.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that several US allied countries are also avoiding direct involvement in the ongoing tensions with Iran.
Earlier, former US President Donald Trump reacted to the lack of support from allies. He stated that the United States does not depend on others for assistance.
The development highlights growing caution among countries as geopolitical tensions continue to rise.
