UN rights chief urges US probe into Iran school strike as global concern grows over a deadly attack on a school in Iran.
The call came during a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Geneva on Friday. Countries raised serious questions about the incident and demanded answers.
The school, identified as Shajareh Tayyebeh School, was reportedly hit at the start of a regional conflict. Iranian officials said more than 175 children and teachers lost their lives.
Volker Turk urged the United States to complete its investigation without delay. He stressed that the findings must be made public.
According to earlier reports, US military officials believe their forces may be involved. However, no final conclusion has been announced so far. Israel has also stated that it is reviewing the incident.
Iran strongly condemned the attack and called for accountability. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the tragedy cannot be ignored and must lead to justice.
Several countries reacted with concern. Pakistan’s envoy Bilal Ahmad described the deaths of school children as unacceptable. China’s ambassador Jia Guide also expressed shock over the incident.
Some nations, including the United Kingdom, criticized the attack while also highlighting Iran’s internal human rights issues. Others pointed to the wider regional conflict and called for balanced discussion.
The debate also included voices of victims. A grieving mother, Mohaddeseh Fallahat, appealed for justice, saying the world must value the lives of children.
The UN rights chief urges US probe into Iran school strike remains a key issue at the global level. Many countries are now waiting for a clear and transparent outcome.
