30 air quality monitors installed under CM Maryam’s ‘Clean& Green Punjab’ program

30 air quality monitors installed under CM Maryam's 'Clean& Green Punjab' program

LAHORE: Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz has started a new, exciting green revolution calledClean and Green Punjab‘ to put 100 advanced air quality monitoring stations in the province, which is estimated to cost several billions.

In this programalready on the ground are some 30 air quality monitors at the cost of billions, and another 30 are expected to be installed by March 31.

This huge jump from just three monitors in the past years has been a direct result of the government’s interest in addressing air pollution with the help of modern monitoring systems.

In Lahore, five mobile and eight fixed monitoring stations have started functioning, linked to a satellite-based automated system that would provide hourly updates on the air quality, providing an effective basis for monitoring and quick action against pollution.

The project is now being extended to the major cities of Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala, where real-time environmental data will expose pollution hotspots in industrial and urban areas.

This will ensure better control by the regulators of emissions and action that will not only curb but also seek the elimination of pollution. ‘Clean and Green Punjab’ is a massive initiative toward green governance in the province, and it is heartening to see that the government has taken the initiative in battling this escalating crisis of air pollution.
