DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least four policemen were martyred, while several others sustained injuries when terrorists targeted a police search operation in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday evening.
According to police sources, during the incident, which took place at about 4:50 pm at Budh Wanda within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Khan Police Station, a search operation was going on under the supervision of a joint team comprising officials from the CTD police and Paharpur Circle police.
Unidentified terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Tipu Gul Marwat group started shooting at the police party, which gave rise to a heavy gunfight. The police retaliated, and there were reportedly casualties among the terrorists.
The martyred officials were identified as SHO Faheem Mumtaz Khan and constables Irfan Khan, Ghulam Subhani, and Wajahat.
Among those injured were DSP Hafiz Muhammad Adnan, driver Tariq Khan, and the two gunmen who were with the DSP. “The condition of DSP Adnan, who was slightly injured in his hand, is out of danger,” the hospital administration said.
The security forces have cordoned off the area and have launched a search operation to chase the fleeing militants.
