5.8-magnitude earthquake strikes Pakistan

6.2 quake jolts Sulawesi, no Tsunami alert issued

Strong earthquake tremors jolted various cities of northern Pakistan on Thursday, including Peshawar, Swat, and Charsadda, with the magnitude measured at 5.8.

According to the United States geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the earthquake on the Richter scale was recorded at 5.8, with the epicentre recorded 43 kilometres southwest of Jurm in the neighbouring Afghanistan at a depth of 193.8 kilometres. .

In Pakistan, the earthquake tremors were reported from Peshawar, Takht Bai, Dir Bala, Landi Kotal, Swat, Swabi, Hangu, Charsadda, and surrounding areas.

No casualties or loss of life was reported so far.

Severe earthquake tremors were also felt on Wednesday in various cities of Punjab including Lahore.

The magnitude of Wedesnday’s earthquake was recorded at 4.1 at a depth of five kilometres. The epicentre of the earthquake was recorded 34 km west of Lahore and 12 km west of Sheikhupura, according to the met office.
