Adiala Jail superintendent transferred as part of jail reforms

RAWALPINDI: One of the 3 prisoners died while being shifted from Adiala Jail to a heart hospital, here on Sunday.

According to jail sources, 3 prisoners from Adiala Jail were shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology due to heart problems. One died during the transfer to the hospital.

Jail sources said that one prisoner, Mumtaz Iqbal, died while being transferred to the hospital. Mumtaz Iqbal was arrested in a drug case at Kallar Syedan ​​police station.

Jail sources said that the remaining 2 prisoners shifted to the hospital from Adiala Jail are accused in murder cases.

An incident had also taken place in Adiala Jail in 2024 where 4 prisoners in the AIDS ward of the jail committed suicide by hanging themselves. This incident took place in the AIDS ward of Adiala Jail on the intervening night of December 1 and 2.

The prison administration said that the deceased and the accused are AIDS patients and were confined in the AIDS ward. Meanwhile, the prison administration had said that Adiala Jail has a capacity of 2,200 prisoners and there are more than 7,000 prisoners.
