KARACHI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has foiled a major attempt to smuggle drugs worth over Rs 2 billion from Karachi to Dubai and recovered 200 kg of crystal meth (ice) hidden in spice packets.
According to an ANF spokesperson, the Port Control Unit raided the Karachi Gateway Terminal based on a tip-off. During the inspection of a shipping container bound for Dubai, the team discovered crystal meth hidden in hidden packets labelled as ‘breast spice’.
The ANF has recovered 200 kg of the highly addictive drug, which was being smuggled through Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port. The value of the seized drugs in the international market has crossed Rs 2 billion.
The consignment was booked by a Multan-based company, Al Shams Import Export. Efforts are on to arrest those involved in the smuggling attempt.
Authorities said 2,000 packets of spices were found in the container, most of which were used to hide drugs. Investigations are underway to trace the entire network behind the operation.
